His Ways, Not Ours

What light illuminates: Have you ever noticed that you can walk down one road and notice entirely different things based on the light and the time of day? What light illuminates becomes transformed into something more glorious and attractive. As I walk to and from the church nearly every day, I have noticed that where the light is shining, my attention is drawn. Flowers that were plain earlier in the day, become more beautiful, simply because they are in the light. Grass becomes more then green, it becomes resplendent. Trees become more than just yellow and green in the Fall breeze, they become alive and golden dancing in the breeze. Sunshine brings out the best and most beautiful. How about us? Are we walking in the light?

Sunday, was harvest Sunday. On this day everyone brings their fruit of the land to church, as a sort of offering unto the Lord. Everything is put near the front, on what would be an altar in some churches and during the service a special prayer is said of Thanksgiving for how God has blessed us. Those who don't have gardens buy something to bring. After the service the food is distributed to those from the church who are in need.

This year has been different than last, I am seeking to find the place God has for me not just as a missionary in Latvia, but as one who plans on staying. Because of this I have been looking for a job teaching English at a language center. I hope to start working next week. In the mean time I have started teaching some private students English, as well as continuing with my intermediate level students from last year. Sunday was my turn to cook the soup for church. I decided to make chili because I didn't want to peel so many potatoes (enough for soup for about 100 people) and because I thought they could use trying something new and American. The chili was a hit and everyone raved about how different and unique it was.

I would like to take this time to introduce you further to Janis Grinbergs, my fiance. His name is pronounced Yanis, which is the Latvian version of John. Janis has been the youth leader here at the Ogre Trinity Baptist Church for about 7 years. He works for Lattelcom, one of Latvia's leading phone and internet services, as a Client Line Technician. Which really means he goes to peoples houses and installs internet. In his free time of late he is usually working on his house, it is an old house and he wants to redo it as much as possible. When he has leisure time he enjoys bike riding, nature, and skiing. He also enjoys photography, traveling and reading. There is much more that could be said about him- but if you want to know more, you can write me and ask me what you want to know :)
