Dearest Friends,

Winter has come in with a fury. We have had several days of snow, and it is absolutely beautiful. However, it also makes walking a bit of an adventure. Saturday I enjoyed a walk in the park with Janis, enjoying the winter beauty. I so love winter in Latvia, when the trees are coated with snow. It is simply enchanting. I wish you could come and enjoy a walk with me, even the evenings are bright, as the snow reflects the moon and other lights, leaving us with twilight, rather than true darkness. In the past week I have had a chance to teach all of my classes at least once. It is a rather dramatic change for me to go from teaching in Ogre, to teaching very advanced level students in some banks in Riga, as well as a class at Riga's Dome or City Coucil. I feel like quite a country girl among so many professionals. Pray that God will give me his wisdom, and will shine brightly through me as I try to make a difference in the world of business English. In just a few weeks I will be home, wedding plans are coming a long, but still so much is need to be done. I am a bit overwhelmed at times with all this and with having a new job, your prayers are coveted! I have seen God working in my heart teaching me what it means to be his, without comparing myself to the world. While being engrossed and surrounded in a new culture and new settings, it is easy to grow discontent with what I have, and desire more and more of what this world has to offer: fashion, clothes, nice houses, money. . .Who am I? Who are you? These questions keep mulling through my brain? I don't want culture or work to determine who I am. I want to be molded by the living God. Yesterday the sermon passage was about the burning bush, and one thing that really struck me was that that God allows us to be like the burning bush. He wants us to burn for him, but not be burn up. When we are this way, will be attract others to the living God in us, who burned in the bush, without it burning up. There is nothing exiciting about a bush which isn't burning, but when a bush is aflame, but not burnt up, now that is something! So, what about you? Are you a burning bush?
