Greetings and salutations dear friend.
The past week has been a doozy. I had agreed to take an extra day of teaching through the place I taught at last winter. (They didn't need me anymore once I got back to Latvia in January).
I was informed I was to teach a group of young men, from 9-6 for one day. Then I also agreed to take the first day, which for me was 11-6. This was to be a conversation class only, and the total class was just four days long!
I thought ok, this will be a little bit difficult, keeping 9 guys talking all day long.
It ended up being probably the most difficult teaching experience I have ever had. It wasn't that their language was poor. They spoke English extremely well, too well. They had dirty mouths. I was given a list of about 150 topics of conversation to keep them going for 2 days. We zipped through those, some of them they were unwilling to discuss. I was so glad that there ended up being one woman in the class.
This was a group of techies, whom were mostly in their 20s I would say, a few being older. There was one from Egypt, he added a unique perspective, having just moved to Latvia from Egypt in the past year.
I was saddened by many things that went on in this group. They were the coarsest group I think I have ever spent time with. They know the golden rule, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." They believe this to be a key to successful living, but very hard to live by. BUT, they don't know that it is from the Bible. There were some who scoffed at Christianity, and made fun of the Son of God. Marriage was held as a good idea by some, but utterly scorned by others.
The second day I was to work there, I was dreading it. I read about the armor of God that morning. I prayed a lot on my walk to the train. I prayed that somehow God would use me and clothe me with light. The first day they had used a lot of coarse language.
I was amazed when they were different. I hadn't said anything to them, and yet they didn't talk nearly so rudely. And when they did, the apologized for it. What had happened? I knew what it was, God has gone before me. WOW!
Let us always remember to be ready for battle!
