6 Month Annivesary

Yesterday we celebrated six months of married life. For many of you that may seem so short, it does to me in some ways too. But in another way six months is a long time.

I made a special meal of taco salad for supper, Janis is always happy for something new and interesting. He is fun to cook for.

He was very excited at supper and had a mysterious phone call. He then told me we had to hurry and to take something along to eat. I was so curious to know what we were going to be doing. But he wouldn't give a peep.

We then drove to Lielvarde, a city about 20 minutes from here, and located next to the Daugava river. A huge river in Latvia. There we stopped at a place where there were boats. I then understood, we were going boating. Actually we ended up going on a yacht. I have been on a variety of boats, and had been saying how we should go canoeing ( I love that), but I had never been on a yacht.

It was quite windy, but our "captain" promised there would be no rain:) Due to the wind we had to zig-zag across the river. It was rather scary at times as we tipped quite a bit to one side in the wind. But he reassured us by the fact that the bottom weighed two tons, and there was no way it would tip over. Janis helped in the steering and changing of the sails. I had no idea how often one has to change them when changing directions.

About 30 minutes out it began to rain, I went below deck and felt much more secure there. I enjoyed the ride down there a lot more. I could then watch and take pictures better.

On the way back a big black cloud started rushing up on us. It was strange how it became calm and the cloud of rain advanced so menacingly. It literally poured, to such an extent that there were no waves. Sitting below deck it was funny to watch, but Janis and the "Captain" got drenched.

I will certainly never forget our six month anniversary and our adventure on the river!
