Return to Yesterday- Harlan

Saturday morning we headed to Harlan for my first painting class. I was eager to again be in the First Baptist Church facilities, since it was there my Dad pastored for 8 years not so long ago and it was there we celebrated our American wedding.

The class was small, there were only 2 people who ended up coming in the end. But we had a fun time and I loved working with the ladies. One of them said, "this is so much fun, it paints itself."

Sunday we attended FBC and I felt so welcomed amidst old friends and brothers and sisters in Christ. I was emotional seeing such dear folks and being welcomed so heartily after such a long time. It was special to see these dear people meet my kids. I just felt so delighted to be in this service and loved hearing a sermon in English.

These past 4 nights were spent at Rachel's and it was interesting seeing where she lives and hanging out with them when they were around.

Monday Rachel and I attended a funeral for a dear lady.

Later that day we got to babysit our niece Ariana, that was fun. This was the first time I have babysat her since she was a baby in LV. She is a cutie. I also did some baking for the evening Rachel was to have with her friends.

The evening was spent hanging out with Rachel's friends, who are also family friends. Those French girls are so much fun! Janis enjoyed playing a game with everyone too.

Tuesday I took my painting the basement and did a lot of painting, I had two frames set up and spent several hours at work. Later that day I had my first shift with Rachel at Border Fare- a Mexican restaurant. I used to work in other restaurants, and it was very odd to again return to that sort of a job. I appreciate them hiring me so I can earn a bit of money while we are here.

While working I even saw a boy I used to teach in preschool when he was less than 3 years old. Now, he looks like he would be taller than me. He was one of our worst trouble makers then, and it was so strange to see him all grown up- well as much as can be in 7 years.

I enjoyed working with Rachel and Robert and it was an interesting evening. Strange, but interesting.

Today I worked again in the morning. This time I worked in the front more. I enjoyed the contact with customers. I also loved chatting with some church folks. It was a good shift, short and sweet.

It was a lovely weekend. Being in a place that holds such strong past memories and emotions is always strange. It was good, yet also emotional.

Now we are back at my parent's with lots to do to get ready for my first show on Saturday.
