The other day as I was riding an overpacked train home from work, the people next to me proved to be an interesting object of observation. I love watching people, and this family was interesting for a number of reasons. First of all they seemed to be a fairly happy family. You don't see many families riding on the train together and happy families in today's world are a rarity, so that struck me.Then the teenage girl got out her English books and I was impressed to see the mom could help her a lot with her questions. I kept observing out of the corner of my eye and when they got a bit stuck wondered, "What would happen if I offered to lend some advice?" What would they say, or do or how would they react? And what would I say, "Oh, can I help you, I'm an English teacher." or "Oh can I lend you a hand, that is my native language." But instead I of course kept my quiet thoughts to myself. . .
Yesterday we hosted a youth film evening at our house. It was fun to have a house full of people, it's been a while since we have had guests. They enjoyed the carmael corn I made, marveling at how to make it, and that I popped my corn in a kettle. (I was amused by their surprise and had to repeat my "recipe" several times). They watched the movie "Left Behind 2" and were full of questions as a result.
I feel so blessed and happy. God has blessed us with a wonderful home, with space to entertain guests, which I delight in doing. He has blessed us with talents and dreams. . . I am excited for the upcoming holidays. November 18, is Latvia's independence day, and then Thanksgiving will be here, which I also plan on celebrating this year.
May this day find you well and close to our Savior!
good for you carmel corn girl! I love reading your blog and staying up to date on your life :)
