Heading home to the States is always something I look forward to, dream of, plan for and get so excited about.
This was our first time to visit my parents in their new location and house and so we had some much longer layovers than we had had in the past. Because the kids are older now they aren't as easy to get to sleep when we want- so the 2 older ones didn't sleep on the long flight over at all. Thus when we had to wait 5+ hours in Chicago they crashed on the benches for the whole time.
It was SO wonderful be welcomed at the airport by my Dad and sister and to just FINALLY be done traveling. I DON"T like the traveling part of this!
The next day after we arrived or actually the moments we were flying into our final destination just also happened to be my birthday and I was so blessed that my first gift from God was a safe arrival and final flight (arriving at midnight) on the eve of my birthday.
The whole day of my birthday is a bit groggy due to extreme jet lag and our having slept only a few hours the night before our trip. Yet it was fun to go out to a Chinese buffet with Rachel and her kids and my parents.
I was also needing some things at Walmart for the kids, and was excited to get to go to an American store :) I realized just how foreign I felt when being taken aback by how handicapped people and people of all races work there-- in what would seem great harmony. One lady I tried asking where the restroom was even was deaf- I had never seen a deaf employee anywhere and it did my heart good to see how all kinds of people can find work in US. While here in LV I never see handicapped people much about, much less working.
Coming into America again I always feel so foreign and as if I don't know how to do things here. Things as simple as going to the post office seem scary again when it has been 3 years since one did them in English and you don't know the pricing in $$.
The following day we had a Mom/daughters date and went to Starbucks for some coffee and chatting. It was fun to do that and just BE together and have some good coffee- they don't have Starbucks here.
