A Family Day

Yesterday was a planned trip to Riga. Both Daniel and Ameljia had to see doctors and their appointments were one in the morning and one in the afternoon-with lots of time to run errands in the middle.

Amelija was to see the allergy doctor- I had assured her there would be no owies today. I sat in the car with Karlis and Daniel and Janis went with Amelija. I was surprised when they came back and told how the appointment had gone. She had a skin test done, which I hadn't know would be done. They placed eight drops of food allergy suspects on her skin (ex: eggs, milk, strawberries, etc). Then they prick those eight spots with a needle so that the drop goes beneath the skin to see if there is a reaction.Poor girl, Janis said she screamed a lot. But thankfully, she wasn't allergic to any of those food items.

The doctor said that contrary to our suspicion that she is allergic to strawberries she is allergic to something that they contain- not actually to them. And that she can eat them in moderation. The rash on her skin is now practically gone so we are hoping we are past this allergic stage and won't have to return to the doctor.

After this we went out for lunch a to a nice Chinese Restaurant. However, I concluded that this restaurant is not child friendly. Amelija managed to drop 2 forks because they are so long and elegant she couldn't get the knack of putting them on her plate, and Daniel tipped over two glasses of water. Wow, did I feel we were a bunch of country folk with no manners. The kids were at least quiet and just accident prone due to the unusual tableware.

We ran a few errands Janis needed to get done and headed back to the hospital for Daniel's appointment. Since his operation at 6 weeks of age he has had problems with a hydrocele on the side that was not operated on. This problem comes and goes, but he is scheduled for an operation October 29. So you can pray for him.

More errands, more waiting in the car and we were home about 18:30. An hour or so later and Janis and I were off to our first dance lesson.

We learned the steps to the waltz and it was fun to try it out together. I am looking forward to these dance classes with Janis- at last now we will know how to dance at special occasions instead of just pretending we know how. I really enjoyed the evening and am exited for a fun way of getting some exercise.
