Packages to Latvia

Dear Friends,

I had a shock yesterday when I had to pay $25.00 for the customs fee on a package I received. There is a new law in Latvia and now any packages with a value of more than $10.00 will have to have customs fees paid for it.(If it comes from a country outside the European Union)

I took this shock really emotionally hard yesterday. To me it feels like a punishiment for a gift. I live my life apart from my family, in a foreign land and so look forward to getting packages. I don't get them often, but when I do they are/were so delightful. Now I feel as if this simple pleasure has been ripped from me because I can't always afford to be paying duties

The clerk working suggested that when people send me packages they not write a value of more than $10.00, and don't insure it for a high value either. I don't know if this will work, and it seems a bit dishonest.

But at least now you know my recent woes.
