"Jaun saimniece" seems to my new title according to our neighbors and the elderly population of Latvia. In English this could be translated as: lady, housekeeper, mistress of the house, etc. It is funny to me to be referred to as "saimniece." People also call Janis the "saimnieks" : master, boss, owner, etc. Rather than calling me Mrs. Grinberga (which of course isn't even used in Latvia) I am referred to as above, and this title just tickles me a bit:)
These past weeks have been filled with joys and new challenges. One of my biggest thrills was getting my drivers license. I had been studying for sometime as I had to take the theory test, and there were many things that differ from the American rules of the road. Upon taking the test I had to answer 30 questions, with no more then 3 mistakes. I was astounded when I was able to pass without a single mistake. I had been a bit worried about taking the test in English after having studied most of the time for it in Latvian. But I was convinced that I would understand even better in my own language, which was of course true. The only funny thing was that when I wasn't sure about an answer I would stop and start thinking of how it was written in Latvian and that helped me remember the correct answer. Praise God for this new blessing!
We have finally received more of an answer on Janis' back. He has a herniated or ruptured disk. He now has to go through a series of therapy, massage and other things. He also has to have an MRI (the waiting list is through July and August). If the therapy doesn't work he may have to have surgery. Please pray that he will be able to get into and MRI soon and that God will touch him. Thank you for not forgetting us and for your continued prayer support!
As you can see by the pictures we have been enjoying life. I have gotten to take many long bike rides with friends as well as having some great talks. We have enjoyed some lovely spring weather, during which I planted some radishes, spinach and lettuce. Now however, we have again been stuck with cold wintry weather. In the pictures you will see one building, which is where Janis went to kindergarten as a child. His mother also worked there. Also you will see the river Daugava, which is a mere 5 minute walk from our house! We live in a lovely place!
I am thrilled that in one month my family will be arriving here. I cannot wait!! We have so much to get done in our house before then, our kitchen is an absolute wreck. We moved everything from there to the veranda so that we could start working on it. It is going to be a huge process, please pray that God would help us with this! Thanks!
My English classes have been going well, I so enjoy my students. Each person makes such an impact on the atmosphere of the class. I have been praying that God would give me creativity and opportunities to be a light for Him in this professional setting.
How are you dear friend? I would love to hear from you about what is happening in your life.
