Back in the US

Somehow when I return to my country of birth there are a lot of things that strike me afresh- things I either really love enjoying once again and other things I am not so happy about.

Here are a few of those things:

Public Toilets: I love that the US has them EVERYWHERE and they are free of charge!

Shopping Choices: The immense displays of children' toys and other items leave me in wide eyed wonder. I could spend hours at Wal-Mart just looking at all the new things since I was here last. I don't need them all I just enjoy seeing so many choices, in ONE place. In LV, I would never find a huge toy department in the same store with a party outlet area, and cake decorating supplies to die for.  I love this!
HOWEVER, I also hate how consumer oriented life is.here. I feel like we are constantly going to the store here. As if is just the thing to do, as if that is a just a part of daily life. In LV, I go to the store when I need to go, and make a list and then do all I need to on one outing. I am sure that many people do the same here, but let's just say that where we are now this is not how it is done. Also, things are just so RIDICULOUSLY cheap that why not buy them?! Right!
I am still trying to get used ro life back in the US, I have lived in LV now 7 years and I realize some things are just so normal to me now about life over there. I was so shocked my parents don't have a clothesline, for me that is just so a part of life. We quickly remedied that- but wow, how do they life without one! Another luxury few of us in LV enjoy- a dryer:) Electricity is just so high in Europe.
