Yesterday was my day, in celebration of me.
This week of the year is always very busy for us because it is a free weekend in Latvia due to Latvia's Independence Day. Which was today, the 18th.
I always wonder if my husband will remember my birthday when he is so busy with youth at church and such. But of course he did remember.
I woke up early. I realized that it is ingrained in me to wake up and wait- expecting someone to come with cake and candles and a song. This was our family tradition growing up. But I knew I couldn't expect Janis to do that. After all- he doesn't normally initiate that sort of thing.
But much to my delight, he did just that. As soon as the kids were up he ran downstairs and got the cake with a candle and came and sang to me in bed. How sweet!
We ate a simple breakfast and he never mentioned a gift of having one or getting one. I assumed he didn't have one yet. I told myself that was fine because he is always generous with me. I went upstairs later and opened the curtains in our room and there on our balcony was a chair. The kind of chair I had been wanting all summer. A chair to lay on the balcony with when summer comes. I laughed in delight. It seemed so funny that when I no longer even hoped for such a chair he got one:) They are rather pricey here.
So here I was doubting my husband remembering and course he went and surprised and pleased me as always :)
The rest of the day was spent in the kitchen. I had bought rice paper and decided to give spring rolls a try. They were surprisingly easy to make but seemed more like egg rolls to me.
For supper we had tacos- yummy! We don't often eat those as it is an expensive meal, especially if you buy the taco shells and flour tortillas
I realized that in my pregnant state good food is very important on this birthday.
Tomorrow we are having a birthday party with friends, games and appetizers. I have a whole list of appetizers I'm going to make. I can't wait!
Sounds like you had an amazing birthday!! Happy Birthday to you!!
