Things I miss from home

I am sure that it must be thought that by now I would be used to living in Latvia. and in general that is true. But I find the longer I live here, the more there are just some things I miss about home. Also the longer I am here the more I realize, "I am American." I didn't use to like to claim that, I was so proud to be half Latvian. I still am proud. . . But where I was raised and the culture and family I grew up in were what shaped me to be who I am, and I am proud of that.

  • I miss drying clothes in a dryer in the fall and winter. I get tired of hanging them over radiators, and on our indoor clothes line. (It is too wet for them to dry outside).
  • I miss eating American food. I know that is a silly thing perhaps. But just be thankful when you go to the store that peanut butter doesn't cost $4.oo a jar for the off brands and $8.00 a jar for Skippy. Don't worry, I don't buy it for that price!! :-) I miss being able to eat tacos on a regular basis, here it is an expensive meal to make (so we rarely indulge). Also being a pregnant lady I have so many cravings. Chinese food, Pizza Hut, Subway and the list goes on.
  • I miss the ease of living in America. Life is easier there, be thankful you all!!
  • I miss hearing sermons in English!!
  • I miss potluck dinners and other church functions.
  • I miss just doing things in English, shopping, going to the doctor, anything.
  • But most of all I miss my being near my family and friends.
This isn't to say I am not happy, I am very happy. I just have been missing home and the life I used to live. I thank God for the life he has given me here, but still there are things I sometimes miss. Don't feel sorry for me, just be thankful for all these little things in your life!
