Fatherland, Father's Tongue

As Daniel begins to talk more intelligibly, the words he is most often using are in Latvian. I know he understands English, that is plain to see. There are things he also knows only in English (i.e. the parts of the body). He knows these because I have worked on them with him. But it is interesting to see my son speaking in Latvian.

My husband recently read in an scientific magazine that children usually choose their father's language when they first start talking. Interesting, it is because fathers say less, and it is easier for the kids to pick up on Daddy's language?

Daniel said his first full sentence the other day, "Pease Mammu Udens." In English, "Please Mamma Water." Cute, of course his first sentence would be a mix of both languages! I expect him to combine both languages for a while, that is normal!
